What You May Experience

Experiences During a Therapeutic Massage

Relaxation: A sense of calm and peace often sets in, with lowered heart rate and reduced blood pressure.

Sensation of Warmth: As circulation improves, many people experience warmth in the massaged areas.

Muscle Release: Tension in the muscles is often palpably released during the session.

Pain: Sometimes, when deep tissue techniques are used or if there's an underlying injury, there can be a bit of discomfort. However, this should be communicated to the therapist, who can adjust their techniques.

Emotional Release: It's not uncommon for clients to experience an emotional response, sometimes even crying, especially if the massage releases stored emotional tension.

Deep Breathing: Many therapists guide clients to take deep breaths, especially if a particular area is tight or painful, which can facilitate muscle relaxation.

Benefits of Therapeutic Massage

Pain Relief: Massage can help reduce pain in the muscles, joints, and body, often used for conditions like arthritis, muscle strains, and chronic pain.

Stress Reduction: Regular massages can decrease cortisol (a stress hormone) levels and increase feelings of relaxation and peace.

Improved Circulation: Massage techniques often promote better blood and lymphatic flow, supporting better oxygen and nutrient distribution throughout the body.

Enhanced Flexibility: By reducing muscle tension and stiffness, range of motion often improves.

Strengthened Immune System: Some studies suggest that regular massages can boost white blood cell count, which plays a crucial role in defending the body from disease.

Better Sleep: Many people report improved sleep patterns and deeper sleep after receiving a massage.

Reduction in Headache Frequency and Severity: Massage, especially techniques targeting the head, neck, and shoulders, can help reduce tension headaches and even migraines.

Digestive Support: Abdominal massage can assist in alleviating constipation and promoting regular bowel movements.

Emotional Balance: By reducing cortisol and increasing the "feel-good" hormones like serotonin and dopamine, massage can help in mood regulation.

Posture Improvement: By releasing tension in the back and shoulders, especially in people who sit for extended periods, posture can be positively affected.

Toxin Release: Massaging muscles can help release stored toxins, and drinking water post-massage helps flush them out.

Enhanced Skin Health: Improved circulation can lead to brighter, more nourished skin. Additionally, the oils and lotions used can moisturize the skin.

Rehabilitation from Injury: Many athletes and individuals recovering from injuries use therapeutic massage to accelerate healing and increase flexibility.

Relief from Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression: The relaxation and hormonal balance promoted by massage can be beneficial for mental well-being.

It's essential to remember that while therapeutic massage offers many benefits, it is not a substitute for medical treatment. Always consult with healthcare professionals about any specific health conditions or concerns.

Experiences During a Reiki Session

Deep Relaxation: Many recipients feel a profound sense of calm and relaxation during the session.

Warmth or Tingling: It's common to feel warmth, coolness, or tingling in certain parts of the body as the practitioner channels energy.

Emotional Release: Some people may experience an emotional response, which can range from feelings of happiness to sadness or even crying.

Visual Experiences: Some recipients may see colors, images, or light while their eyes are closed.

Floating Sensation: A few individuals describe a feeling of lightness or even a sensation of floating above the table.

Falling Asleep: Due to deep relaxation, some individuals drift off to sleep during the session.

Sensations in Specific Areas: As energy blockages are addressed, recipients might feel sensations in specific areas, like pressure, pulsing, or movement.

Benefits of Reiki

Stress Reduction: One of the primary benefits of Reiki is relaxation, which can help reduce stress and activate the body's natural healing processes.

Emotional Healing: Reiki can assist in releasing suppressed emotions, leading to emotional clarity and improved mental well-being.

Physical Healing: While Reiki isn't a cure for diseases or illnesses, it can complement other treatments by promoting faster recovery and reducing side effects.

Balancing Energy: Reiki aims to balance the body's chakras and energy fields, leading to a sense of harmony and balance.

Enhanced Spiritual Growth: Regular Reiki sessions can foster a deeper connection to one's spirituality or inner self.

Pain Management: Many individuals turn to Reiki to manage chronic pain, headaches, and tension-related issues.

Improved Sleep Patterns: Those who undergo Reiki sessions often report better, more restful sleep.

Boosted Immune System: By reducing stress and balancing the body's energies, Reiki can, indirectly, strengthen the immune response.

Enhanced Self-awareness: Regular Reiki treatments can lead to increased intuition and a clearer understanding of oneself and one's purpose.

Support During Emotional Upheavals: Reiki can be particularly helpful during significant life changes, such as grief, breakups, or career changes, providing emotional stability and understanding.

Chronic Illness Support: For those dealing with chronic illnesses, Reiki can offer relaxation, pain management, and emotional support.

Releasing Toxins: Reiki is believed to help the body detoxify, promoting better overall health.

While many people report various benefits from Reiki, it's essential to approach it with an open mind. As with all complementary therapies, it's crucial to continue with any prescribed medical treatments and consult with healthcare professionals about any specific health concerns or conditions.

Energy Release
We tend to store unprocessed trauma and emotions in our muscles and bodies. This can present itself as a rushing feeling through the body, tingling, warming sensations, or involuntary movements or the body. The release of energy can also be partnered with an emotional release, but does not always happen hand in hand.

Awareness of Tension Patterns
As we get the work done and we start to feel relief we will also start to notice old repetitive use or muscle tension patterns. These are deeper “trauma’s” and tend to come out after you start to work on something that was on the surface. When these come out it is important to tune into your body fully to allow it to reveal to you how to unwind. Our bodies are masters at finding balance. Paired with intention, focus and listening we can fine tune our ability to know what our bodies are asking for to relax and maintain balance.

Emotional Release
When we get work done on areas storing trauma and/or emotion it can bring up feelings we may have been avoiding. When we bring awareness to these traumas and emotions it gives us an opportunity to release them from or bodies. This can be an uncomfortable experience, especially if we have neglected certain traumas and emotions for a long period of time. We do not need to carry these  traumas or emotions, but sometimes we do. How we carry them and where can affect our bodies’ ability to stay in balance. There may be physical sensations in the body that can indicate unwinding and releasing of emotions and the energy that carries them.
